Check five things before making an appointment
Confirm the doctor's complete name, the country where the patient is located and whether remote consultation is available at the location, the time zone of both parties, the consultation platform, the initial consultation fee and cancellation rules. Some problems require on-site inspection or local medical cooperation, and remote consultation cannot complete all diagnosis and treatment links.
If an interpreter, partner or family member is required to participate, please indicate this in advance. Test whether the microphone, network and files can be opened; you can also prepare a paper question for important consultations to avoid missing listening while looking for files.
How to write a one-page medical history summary?
| Sequence | What to write | Don’t just write anything |
|---|---|---|
| Basic background | Age, major diseases and surgeries, allergies, current medications | "The body is all normal". |
| Childbirth experience | Trial time, previous pregnancies and outcomes, related treatments | "Never successful." |
| Inspection and Assessment | There are exceptions, inspection dates, and problems that have been reported | Just write "AMH Low" without the original value and unit. |
| Treatment process | Approximate time, medication and stage results of each cycle | Just write "did it three times". |
| This time’s goal | Most wanted to solve the problem, time and language requirements | Just ask "What is your success rate?" |
Abstracts help doctors quickly locate problems and cannot replace the original data. Past diagnoses or items that cannot be remembered can be marked as "original report pending review" and medical conclusions should not be written from memory.
Which raw reports are most useful?
Provide relevant information from both parties as required by the hospital: hormones and ultrasound, uterine or fallopian tube examination, semen examination, genetic reports, and important surgical and disease records. Each copy retains the date of inspection, name, affiliation, reference range and complete pages.
When IVF has been performed, ovarian stimulation and monitoring records, egg retrieval and mature egg number, fertilization method, fertilization and culture results, biopsy and detection, freezing and transfer reports are placed according to the cycle. Do not combine the best single numbers of multiple periods into one period.
Divide consultation questions into three groups
- 01
Medical Options
What is the main problem right now? What else needs to be ruled out? Why is this path recommended and what are the alternatives?
- 02
Operations and Laboratory
Who reviews monitoring? Where is the egg retrieval and transfer done? Why consider ICSI, PGT or cryo? Which results will change subsequent plans?
- 03
Cost and itinerary
Who provides the cost estimate and what does it include? What dates have been set? What inspections can be done locally? Who should I contact for cross-border connection and follow-up?
Ask questions that will change the direction of treatment first, then ask about technical details. Some answers require additional checking before they can be given. It is more useful to record such questions as post-meeting tasks than to pursue a firm date when the information is insufficient.
How do doctors, translators and coordinators cooperate?
The doctor's own language, translation service and Chinese coordination are checked separately. For complex medical histories that require oral explanation, English or original medical names can be listed in advance; treatment, examination and drug names should be recorded in writing as much as possible.
If your understanding of the doctor's advice is different from that of the person accompanying you, please repeat it on the spot and confirm it. Don’t wait until the initial visit is over to speculate on the medical reasons in a group chat.
At the end of the consultation, what next steps should be taken?
| Matter | What should be clarified |
|---|---|
| Inspection and information | What is missing, where to complete it, and to whom the results will be sent. |
| Treatment direction | What has been identified and what remains to be evaluated. |
| Follow-up communication | When to return for follow-up consultation, who will explain the results and update the plan. |
| Cost | From which financial person to request a quote for what project. |
| Cross-border arrangements | Which dates or inspections will determine departure. |
If you do not receive a written abstract on the spot, you can ask the hospital how to obtain it. Incorporate new tasks into your to-do list and then review treatment dates and budget when completed, rather than treating your initial verbal intentions as a complete plan.

Common questions during initial consultation
Are the more inspection reports the better?
The emphasis is on being complete, relevant, and understandable in time. First, provide according to the hospital list, and do not repeat the inspection to make up the number.
Can I consult several doctors at the same time?
Different opinions can be compared, but the same background should be truthfully provided to each doctor to compare the reasons for recommendations, risks and implementation conditions, rather than just comparing commitments.
Do I have to pay the cycle fee immediately after the first consultation?
First clarify the plan, cost estimate, payment term and cancellation terms. For items you still don’t understand, you can continue to ask questions to the medical or financial teams.
