Before leaving the United States, keep records in four categories
| Record | Specific content | Subsequent uses |
|---|---|---|
| Clinical Summary | This operation, date, diagnosis and treatment process | For local doctors to know what treatments are actually done. |
| medication and review | Drug name, usage, time, pregnancy test or ultrasound arrangement | After returning to China, continue medical treatment instead of relying on memory to refill medicine. |
| Laboratories | Egg retrieval, maturation, fertilization, culture, detection, transfer and freezing records | Decision on subsequent transfer, preservation or transport. |
| Administration and Preservation | Consent letter, bill, storage subject and renewal period | Handle renewal, authorization, contact information and subsequent delegation. |
Mark "obtained" and "to be sent" respectively. If the report has not yet been released, record the expected feedback window, delivery channel and responsible team, and leave more than just "will notify you later".
What things may still be going on after returning to China after egg retrieval?
Fertilization, culture, and possible genetic testing will continue according to their respective processes. First confirm who will notify the stage results, who will interpret the report, and how to obtain the final frozen or preserved quantity and status.
Eggs, fertilized eggs, blastocysts and test results cannot be replaced by each other. When you receive a brief message after returning to your country, you can further request the corresponding report and explanation, and record the data in the same cycle.
If a transfer is planned later, obtain all necessary results first, and then discuss with the doctor the physical assessment, endometrium preparation, cost, and whether to travel to the United States again.
After transfer: pregnancy test, medication and early pregnancy follow-up
Complete the blood pregnancy test according to the date given by the reception team, and return the complete results and unit; when a review is required, it will be carried out according to medical arrangements. A positive result alone cannot determine the location or subsequent development of pregnancy, and must be linked to corresponding examinations.
Clear written arrangements should be obtained when preparing medication for use across time zones and for refilling after returning home. Do not increase or decrease dosage or stop medication based on home test strips, online recommendations, or other patient medication charts.
How to hand over to local doctor?
- 01
Check to confirm connectivity before departure
Find out if the required pregnancy test, hormone or ultrasound is available locally and when the results will be available.
- 02
Provide real medical summaries
Explain the egg retrieval or transfer date, operation, medication and current situation, and retain the English original and necessary translations.
- 03
Make it clear who will review the results
What are the responsibilities of the American team and local doctors respectively, and how to further communicate when disagreements arise.
- 04
Confirm formal handover node
After the pregnancy develops or other conditions are stable, it is important to know when to transfer to routine obstetrics or local specialist follow-up, and which issues are still the responsibility of the original clinic.
How to maintain the preservation of eggs, sperm and embryos?
Record the actual storage clinic, sample quantity and status, renewal due date, billing email address and payment method. When the address, name or contact information changes, proactively update according to the organization's procedures; failure of automatic deduction may also cause subsequent billing issues.
When planning future use or transfer, understand written authorization, acceptance review, and original records. Special circumstances such as joint authorization, death or incapacity should be handled according to the preservation agreement and applicable requirements, and cannot be completed only through ordinary chat messages.
| Regular check | What to keep? |
|---|---|
| Whether to save continuously | Renewal invoice and coverage period. |
| Is the contact valid? | Current contact information for the hospital and preservation clinic. |
| Is the information complete? | Freezing, testing and authorization records. |
| Whether the plan changes | Formal application requirements for future use, transfer, or termination of preservation. |
When it is necessary to transfer again or adjust the plan
Bring all stage results back to the doctor for discussion. The results of one transfer are different from the cumulative results of the entire egg retrieval cycle; whether to update the examination, continue to use existing embryos, or re-retrieve eggs, complete information should be combined.
If you change hospitals, the data and sample reception will be processed first, and then transportation and payment in the new cycle will be started. The new hospital needs to know actual embryos and treatment records, not just the success rates or verbal conclusions given by the previous hospital.

Frequently asked questions after returning to China
Can I just save the chat history without making a formal report?
It is best to keep original copies of formal reports, consent forms, and bills. When changing doctors, scheduling a transfer, or transport, a chat summary is often not an adequate substitute for the original transcript.
I haven’t received a notification about the long-term storage fee. Do I need to pay it?
Take the initiative to check the deposit agreement, account period and contact information first. You should not infer that there is no renewal obligation based on no notification.
Do I have to transport the embryos out before changing hospitals?
Should not be shipped first. The receiving hospital will first review whether to accept it, what records and procedures are required, and then cooperate with professional transportation.
