PFCLA IVF Laboratory
PFCLA 2025 Laboratory Materials: Positive Pressure HVAC, VOC & HEPA Filtration, UPS, Backup Generator, and Emergency Refrigeration Processes for Oppenheimer Tower Primary Facility.
Gerard Celia, Executive Laboratory Director
The PFCLA official website team page lists Gerard Celia as Executive Lab Director. Their disclosed background includes a PhD in molecular physiology and biophysics, laboratory management and reproductive science. Their positions are separate from those of clinical admissions doctors.

Air and culture environment
The September 2025 Lab article covers dedicated HVAC, positive pressure air environments, VOC and HEPA filtration. The cultivation process relies on stable control of temperature, gas and air quality.
Power supply and emergency
The laboratory description lists UPS batteries and dedicated backup generators, and describes plans for scheduled testing, emergency freezing, and sample disposal in the event of natural disasters.
Access control and sample security
Public instructions include electronic access control, monitoring of key areas, and personnel access restrictions. Cryopreservation is a different state from active culture, and embryo, egg or sperm storage records are available upon request at the end of the cycle.
Incubator and embryo observation
Laboratory instructions released by PFCLA in September 2025 describe two types of culture equipment: benchtop incubators for short-term cultures, with independent chambers to hold samples from different patients separately; and Embryoscopes for longer cultures, with built-in imaging to observe development, reducing the need to open the incubator for observation.
A laminar flow workbench is used for routine sample processing; when a more closed operating environment is required, an isolette workbench with a microscope and operating interface is used. The control of the culture environment covers temperature, humidity, pH and gas conditions, and each equipment is responsible for different aspects.
From building filtration to laboratory monitoring
The main facility is located in Oppenheimer Tower. The hospital stated that the building's intake and circulating air use MERV 13 filtration, and the laboratory has independent positive pressure HVAC, HEPA and VOC filtration. Positive pressure allows air to flow outward, while filtration and air quality monitoring are responsible for removing pollutants and identifying changes in the environment, respectively.
VOC is the abbreviation for volatile organic compounds. Monitoring in the laboratory instructions also involves incubator gases, as well as the pH and dissolved gases of the culture solution. When air quality is abnormal, the hospital will reduce sample exposure and adjust operations as appropriate.
Power outage, emergency freezing and sample transfer
| Situation | The hospital’s response method disclosed |
|---|---|
| Short-term power outage or voltage fluctuation | UPS batteries and power conditioning equipment protect critical instruments. |
| Longer power outage | Use an independent backup generator and schedule regular testing and inspections. |
| Environmental or building risks persist | Take emergency freezing, adjust operations or suspend operation according to risks. |
| Long-term inability to enter the building | Connect with professional preservation and transportation parties to transfer frozen samples according to emergency plans. |
Continuous cultivation requires a controlled environment and electricity, and liquid nitrogen storage is another state of preservation. The contingency plan will affect cycle dates and sample locations, and adjustments involving your cycle will be notified by the medical team.
Westwood address and visit informationLaboratory reports during treatment
The fertilization report records the fertilization situation, the culture report records the embryonic development, and the detection report records the inspected items and conclusions. After cryopreservation, the quantity, status, storage subject and renewal information should also be saved for future transfer or transfer.
